The Unique ways to use natural lip gloss and lip balms.
While it’s important that all of your makeup and cosmetic products use high quality, natural ingredients, lip products stand out as especially important. Since lip glosses and balms are, or course, used on your lips, the likelihood of consuming some of it by eating or simply licking your lips throughout the day is extremely high.
Look for products with ingredients such as shea butter, coconut oil and vitamin E oil. A good general rule of thumb is that if there’s an ingredient on the packaging that’s particularly difficult to pronounce, it most likely isn’t natural or healthy. These are easier to spot than you might imagine; some examples include butylated hydroxyanisole, butylated hydroxytoluene, propylparaben butylparaben, isobutylparaben and isopropylparaben.
Once you’ve found a balm or gloss that fits this natural criteria, you can experiment with several unique ways to use the product. Here are a few to get you started.
- Try creating your own custom highlighter by combining a tinted balm with a light, neutral eyeshadow. Try this sweet pink balm combined with a shimmery eyeshadow.
- Hold your brows in place with a natural, un-tinted balm. It can be used as a substitute for brow gel: just use your finger and a spooly to brush a little in place on your brows.
- Substitute lip gloss for a cream blush. Use your finger to lightly tap the gloss on to your cheeks, but be sure to use a more subtle color as the pigment of the gloss won’t be what your used to compared to regular blush. Try the cabaret salsa or tropical pink colors of this natural lip gloss.
- Use lip balm to soften your cuticles. If you notice a cracked area, treat it with a bit of lip balm to hopefully prevent a potentially painful hangnail.
If you’d rather stick to the basics and simply use your lip balm or gloss on your lips, there are still several ways to play around with how you wear it. Try ...
- Layering multiple colors to create a custom shade.
- Putting gloss over a matt lipstick to soften the look.
