Combatting Shine: Skincare & Makeup Products for Oily Skin

Combat shine with natural makeup

Having a healthy glow is beautiful. Having an oily shine? Not so much.

If you’re struggling to combat the oil and want more of a matte look, there are ways to care for your skin to reduce oil and makeup products that can help stop the shine.

Play with various products to see what works best for your skin! Just make sure not to over dry your skin with harsh washing or over-exfoliation.

Here are five ways to mattify your skin through various skincare products and types of makeup.

  1. Use Charcoal Soaps or Scrubs

Charcoal face wash can provide a deeper cleanse than your standard solution. Use a charcoal soap daily or try a scrub a few times a week for an exfoliating clean. According to StyleCraze, “Charcoal soap absorbs the excessive oil along with the dirt from the skin. This gives you an oil-free look.”

  1. Use an Activated Charcoal & Clay Deep Cleansing Mud Mask

Mix this dry (powder) face mask with water to form a paste. With charcoal and a variety of clays as the key ingredients, this mask is a great treatment for oil-prone skin. Activated Charcoal is the key ingredient to help pull out toxins that are deep into the pores on your skin and gives a healthy deep cleansing while leaving the natural minerals intact. There’s no need to use the mask more than a few times a week.

  1. Use Powder Foundation

A powder foundation helps absorb oil better than a liquid or cream foundation. If your skin does get shiny throughout the day, you can re-apply to mattify your skin.

  1. Use Oil-Absorbing Sheets

Available at most drugstores, oil-absorbing sheets are a lifesaver for shiny-faced girls. The pocket-sized pack is filled with thin, semi-translucent papers that you can use to blot your face. The sheets absorb oil without removing makeup and eliminate the need for more product on top of a liquid foundation, which can lead to looking cakey.

  1. Use a Mattifying Translucent Powder

Anytime you use a liquid or cream foundation you should finish it off with a setting powder to hold it in place. This powder minimizes lines, absorbs oils and softens your complexion with a flawless finish. Order it in a sample size to make sure you have the right color before ordering the full-sized jar.
