4 New Things to Try With Your Makeup in 2020

It’s easy to get stuck in a rut when it comes to your makeup habits. Whether you opt for a peachy blush every time, always choose matte eyeshadow or tend to pick the same lip color time and time again, most ladies have a tried and true makeup routine.

But what happens when you’re ready to break out of that rut? As the seasons and years change, so do the trends and styles. And if you want to keep up (and not look 10 years behind), you’ve got to change with the seasons. While it may be a little scary to try something new, it’s worth the risk.

And you can always go back to what you know. But when you’re in the mood for a little mixup, here are four new things to try with your makeup in 2020.

  1. Let it Glow

If you’ve been going matte with your makeup, 2020 is time for a glow up. Rather than using a mattifying setting powder or powder foundation, a liquid foundation can give you more of a glow. Dab some highlighter on your cheekbones, above your cupid’s bow and on your chin for a natural shimmer. According to Stylecaster, a balmy glow is in for 2020.

  1. Magnify

If you don’t have one on your bathroom counter already, a magnifying mirror is a must for top notch makeup. A magnifying mirror helps you to get the little details right — whether it’s plucking nearly invisible stray eyebrow hairs or drawing the perfect cat eye eyeliner. Most magnifying mirrors are surrounded by a halo of lights to illuminate your handiwork.

  1. Bake, Don’t Cake

If you haven’t tried this trick, now is the time. “Baking” your makeup helps it to stay put without creases, cakiness or a powdery look. In order to bake your makeup, apply foundation and concealer like you normally would. Then, use a translucent setting or finishing powder and apply it heavily to your under eye area with a wet sponge. According to Cosmopolitan, you should pack on the powder and then let it sit for about 10 minutes. After that time has passed, brush off the excess powder and voila! A perfect finish.

  1. Go Natural

Stop using harmful skin care and beauty products that are full of ingredients that aren’t good for you. Whether you need to ditch aluminum-riddled deodorant or use a shampoo that is sulfate-free, there are lots of small changes you can make. Don’t feel like you need to do it all at once! Each product you swap out will make a difference and little by little you’ll be healthier and happier with vegan, natural personal care and beauty products.
