Happy New Year! Are you ready to tackle 2020 with lists of goals, a brand new calendar and heaps of resolutions?
Whether you’re the kind of person who loves this time of year or dreads the pressure of coming up with resolutions (and then keeping them), the start of a new year is always a great time to restart and refresh.
If the word “resolution” scares you, think of them as new habits or little improvements you can make in your day to day life. If a resolution you make is one you dread, you probably won’t be able to hang onto it for very long.
We think these three resolutions are attainable for just about anyone. So give them a shot! We’re not asking for perfection — but your skin will be grateful for any of these that you stick to.
- Never Go to Sleep Without Taking Your Makeup Off
Makeup is great — during the day. Sleeping with your makeup on is one of the worst things you can do to your skin. Makeup will clog your pores and can potentially cause acne, oily skin and other problems. According to Allure Beauty, when you don’t cleanse your skin it creates a buildup “that can lead to textural issues and poor luminosity, especially because it prevents your skin from being able to renew itself overnight.”
- Always Moisturize
No matter what your skin type, moisturizing is essential to healthy, glowing skin. If your skin is oily, it’s still important to moisturize so that your body isn’t overcompensating and creating even more excess oil. Moisturizing helps to balance your skin. According to Burke Williams Spa, moisturizing has a multitude of benefits, including fighting wrinkles, reducing the appearance of blemishes, and reducing the chance of other skin problems. This lightweight moisturizer is perfect for any skin type.
- Use SPF Every Day
Sun damage is one of the worst things that can happen to your skin — but it’s also one of the easiest things to avoid. By products with SPF on a daily basis, you can make sun protection part of your daily skin care routine. By getting into the habit of using SPF in the winter (the sun is still shining!) you’ll be ready for more intense rays come summertime. And don’t just think about your skin — it’s also important to protect your lips. Some chapstick contains SPF or one like this tinted lip balm contains Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide, which provide some protection from the sun.
